Operations Allies Refuge/Welcome

On August 29, 2021, President Biden directed the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to lead and coordinate ongoing efforts across the federal government to support vulnerable Afghans, including those who worked alongside us in Afghanistan for the past two decades, as they safely resettle in the United States.

Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst was one of the first military bases in the United States to start receiving vulnerable Afghans. In a short span of a couple of nights, the public affairs team at JB MDL coordinated with US Transportation Command to conduct historical coverage of the event, often with ambiguity and quick product turnaround.

Airman 1st Class Joseph Morales conducted photo and video coverage of the event, leading small teams in day-of coverage and delivering products within a 12-hour period. His works were featured by CNN, the Philadelphia Inquirer, MSNBC, Fox News, and other local outlets.
